What is it? Active Management Technology. It is an IT Management system, a time saving device that allows IT managers to save time and money. More work can be accomplished in a considerable smaller amount of time. The initial cost of the machines can be higher, but the savings in the long run is what is important here. Remote Management is a big time saver because it reduces desk side visits. Well that is great you say, but what about all the machines people turn off at night? Well Intel’s new VPro and CentrinoPro chip sets allow an administrator to turn their machines on/off remotely as well. An administrator can turn on the machine, run diagnostics, updates, check machines and then shut them down, thus saving time, money and energy.
Example: At night it can shut down all inactive machines and in the morning bring them all online just before the employees show up at their desk. There is less time for the employee to be turning off and on machines. Schools and companies have saved thousands of dollars. There is also the energy savings.
If a virus is detected, the machine can be auto removed from the network until it is cleaned up. Alerts can be sent to the administrator.
Intel’s VPro and CentrinoPro chip sets have this technology. Software developers would be wise to to check it out and see if they can develop applications to take advantage of this technology. This technology is so vast and wide in various areas, I have only seen a few pieces of software that even are close to taking advantage of most everything.
